After Hurricane Ike, I decided to buy two of these units. This two-speed fan quietly cranks out a LOT of air, folds up for compact storage, and can be powered by AC plug or 8 "D" cells. This isn't one of those feeble anemic camp fans; it's a real, full-sized 10" fan!(NOTE: I just read in other reviews that said there may be an electrical problem with some of the AC "bricks." I think I'll stick to battery power.)It lists a tremendous 72 hours life on a set of batteries. I haven't used it enough, but even if it only lasts 36 hours, it's a bargain!The fan appears tough and fairly well-made, has a fold-up carrying handle and a hook for suspension or can sit on a table on a clever battery-base.The one big drawback is the battery installation. Man, it's a fight to insert those "D" cells! This fan is tough, but I could easily see breaking the battery case or snapping a wire or contact spring. VERY tight fit with Duracells, and it might not be possible with a larger off-brand battery. So, 4 out of 5 stars.NEW NOTE 7/12/10: I noticed today someone was charging over (rhymes with nifty) dollars for this fan. WAY, WAY too expensive. I bought it for half that price.POOR MAN'S A/C: I recently heard of people setting up these fans so they blow across a bag of ice to create a mini-air conditioner. Great idea!

Because of my desire to use a fan while serving in Dispatch at church or working at my desk at work, I try not to purchase / use items that need to be plugged into an electrical outlet.When I stumbled across a 02-Cool fan in 2009, I purchased 2 of them: 1 for my daughter and 1 for myself. I continued to look for another one with no luck. But, thanks to Amazon, they offered the 10" - 02 Cool Fan. So, I purchased one!Now, to the point.....I purchased this fan because I read that it can be used as electric or by battery operation. I love the fan's performance. But, the only thing that I don't like is that it takes 8 - D sized batteries. When I received it, that threw me for a loop!

I can't get the company to send me the right fan. The one in the picture that I pick out has a hook on the handle which is important for my intended use. I keep getting a fan without the hook. See I had one with the hook before in which we hook to our stroller to keep our babies cool while doing outside activities, it worked great for about 2 years. I have recently had another child and would like to get a fan with a hook to do the same and I have tried twice now by sending the first one back and reordering it again because I was told that it would get done right and still received a fan with no hook.
