3Get the Hunter brand fans for better quality
By S. Wells
I expected a higher quality product for $60. This fan seems chintzy compared to the Hunter 12" fan I got at Target for $15 cheaper. The medallion in the center with the Minka-Air logo is just an aluminum plate, whereas the Hunter fan has an embossed steel logo. The retaining ring that holds the front and back guards together is plastic and there are absolutely no directions in the box about putting the thing together. I had to guess. The retaining ring is not easy to put on. You almost need three hands. The Hunter fan has a metal retaining ring, and the fan comes completely assembled. The Minka-Aire fan works well, and is relatively quiet, but the blades hit somewhere when you change the speed. That's annoying.I wouldn't recommend this fan. Go to Target and get a Hunter fan, or pay $30 more and order it at Amazon.

1Minka-Aire F300-ORB 11 inch Desk Fan
By D. Salley
This fan worked well for about 7-8 months. Then the bearings seized up and the motor's carbon brushes melted. I took it to an appliance repair shop and the technician said it was "Un-repairable". No parts that he had would fit it and Minka-Aire supplies nothing to their customers or repair sites. He said it was the hardest fan he had every tried to service and that it wasn't made to ever be taken apart. The warranty was for only 90 days. It was noisy from day one.I just purchased a similar sized/looking Hunter fan with a 5 year warranty. The cost was the same, at $60.00, as the Minka-Aire. I am hoping that the new Hunter will last. If it doesn't, I have 5 years of them fixing it, or replacing it for free. I am still wary of Chinese made appliances. They all seem to be made for as little as possible. I want to spend my money on quality products, not "it only lasts for one season" junk!Let the buyer beware! Stick with a good name brand that has a realistic warranty. Hunter may be made in China too, but they have a big name here and will probably protect that with good warranty coverage.dsalley

1No need to be rude or insulting; it IS a challenge to assemble! Complete waste of money!
By johnnyeye
In an effort to supply an informative review- and without resorting to completely unnecessary rudeness- let me say that this fan is, indeed, somewhat of a challenge to assemble. In particular, it requires a great deal of patience trying to hold the front and back parts of the blade "cage" together while simultaneously fastening/adjusting a strip of rubber that encircles and holds the two pieces in place! In fact, it's not out of the question to state that this operation could very well be a two person job; which is a nuisance for something of this scale. It seems somewhat ridiculous that an item like this requires any assembly at all.I bought this fan because I've had two similar Hunter fans that broke down; I thought I might have better luck with a different brand. I will say that this fan feels surprisingly flimsy when compared to the heavier, much more solidly built Hunter fans. You can feel the entire fan quiver when you simply touch the on/off switch. I am not encouraged by my initial impression of this product...And rightly so, as it turns out! Imagine my shock as I watched (from across the room) in disbelief as the upper part of the fan- which houses the motor- and which did NOT require assembly, unscrewed itself while oscillating, send the entire thing crashing to the floor! A complete waste of money and by far the worst product I have ever purchased through Amazon! I only wish I could rate it zero stars... DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.
