I bought this item specifically for use in public situations. I heard the O2 Cool fan personal fan designed with upward flowing air works wonderfully, but it was out of stock so I got this one instead. It creates a nice little breeze, but it's not in the least bit quiet. I will use it for some situations, but there's no way I'd be able to use it sitting in an audience or in other situations where its noise would be distracting and unquestionably noticeable.
